Welcome Back Class of 2001!

Dear Class of 2001 Classmates, Teachers, Staff & Friends,

I am excited to share the work Mid-Pacific Institute (now branded as “Mid-Pacific”) is taking to uphold its tremendous reputation as an innovative, creative, and enriching school for Hawaii’s best and brightest.

Like you, Mid-Pacific served as an open platform for me to express myself through sports, the arts, educational enrichment, volunteer work and social environments that were outside my comfort zone. While it may have seemed goofy and awkward at the time, some of my fondest and most cherished memories were shared with you at prom, embarrassing assemblies, art showcases, club meetings, lunch meals and the impossible six minute UPHILL hikes from the gym to the Kawaiha’o building!

In addition to sharing the great news about our school, I am most excited to share updates of our beloved teachers and classmates. Can you believe it’s been 15 years ago since we graduated? As the years go by, trends change, and people evolve, so I’m really excited to launch the Class of 2001 webpage and Facebook group. Please register your email address and contact information with us by continuously staying in touch with us here.

What Is A Class Representative & What Does S/He Do?
In early October, I was contacted by Mid-Pacific staff to serve as the 2001 Class Representative. After thinking about this opportunity for weeks, I accepted the invitation to voluntarily serve you.
As your class representative and class liaison, my primary responsibilities are to:
  • Provide you interesting, visual and relevant updates as it relates to our school, classmates and teachers;
  • Reintroduce you to our fellow classmates, beloved teachers and new administrators to re-open the lines of communication;
  • Create effective communication channel(s) for us to reconnect with each other, while allowing us the opportunity to communicate and network; and
  • Listen to you, receive your ideas and actively voice your thoughts with Mid-Pacific administrators regarding how our school can continue to uphold its legacy in being an innovative, creative and thoughtful educational leader.
Significance In High School Alumni Relations?
While the Class of 2001 was one of the smallest classes ever, many teachers and various classes (1999 to 2003) said that the Class of 2001 had a reputation for having individuals that were inclusive, spirited, creative and well-rounded. In addition, the Class of 2001 served as the “guinea pig” class for the “Mid-Pacific School of the Arts (MPSA) program. In 1998, some of you demonstrated a long-term commitment to the MPSA program in the 8th grade by dedicating much of your education toward the arts.

I share this with you because I have volunteered our class to serve as the prototype (“guinea pig” class) class to change and evolve the way in which Mid-Pacific (and other Hawai’i high schools) conduct alumni relations in the modern age. Moving forward, I will be working closely with the Mid-Pacific administration, staff and you to begin re-engaging and modernizing the alumni relations efforts. This will include reintroducing the school to you, so that you can feel more comfortable as an informed brand ambassadors and advocate for the school.
